NSW: Footage released to aid fatal assault investigation

Police have released images of five men .. wanted for questioning over the death of
a man during an assault at a karaoke bar in central Sydney.

The 31-year-old .. who's yet to be formally identified .. was allegedly struck with
an unknown object during an assault at the Viva premises in Clarence Street .. and then
fell down a set of stairs .. losing consciousness.

Emergency services were called just after 2am (AEDT) yesterday .. but couldn't revive the man.

Detective-Inspector PETER HOULAHAN says the victim was known to have worked in the
Chatswood area in Sydney's north .. and efforts are being made to contact his China-based
family.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled for tomorrow to determine the cause of death.

Most of the 30 patrons in the club at the time of the assault had dispersed when police
arrived .. and investigators want to speak with any witnesses.

Detective-Inspector HOULAHAN says some of the people in CCTV footage are quite distinctive
.. from tattoos to clothing.
