NSW: RTA failing to meet half its maintenance targets

The NSW Auditor-General says the Roads and Traffic Authority has achieved less than
half its targeted road maintenance in the last six years.

In a report tabled in parliament today .. BOB SENDT found the RTA's devoted the majority
of its funding to road construction .. while neglecting road rebuilding projects.

He says the expected life of state roads is declining .. and delaying maintenance makes
them unsafe.

RTA chief executive LES WIELINGA says he won't apologise for the RTA's commitment to
building new roads in NSW.
