FED: ABC to focus on ratings and boosting Aussie content: report
SYDNEY, April 8 AAP - The ABC will increase its Australian content and focus on ratings
success in a blueprint to be unveiled by its new managing director in May, the Sydney
Morning Herald reported today.
Jonathan Shier who filled the post of managing director a month ago is also planning
an overhaul of management, the newspaper said.
Mr Shier has held a series of meetings with executives and interstate offices, asking
executives to do a SWOT - strengths, weaknesses opportunities and threats analysis.
He is expected to devise a new mangement strucure with heads of radio, television and
online reporting directly to him, although integrated newsrooms are likely to stay.
The ABC has said it needs an extra $194 million in government funding to boost Australian
content and to produce new programs for its planned digital TV channels.
