SA: $100m car-parts plant for Adelaide
ADELAIDE, Aug 19 AAP - Prime Minister John Howard will announce today that Japanese
auto component maker Hirotec Corporation will build a new $100 million plant in Adelaide's
northern suburbs.
The Australian Financial Review reported today that the new Hirotec plant will be built
at the Elizabeth West Industrial Precinct and supply panel components for Holden's next
generation Commodore car.
Hirotec plans to start production in early 2006, when Mitsubishi Motors Australia is
scheduled to start shedding 1,020 jobs from its plants in Adelaide's southern suburbs.
About 150 jobs would be created when Hirotec starts construction on the new factory
next year, the paper said, with about 200 workers to be employed once production begins.
